Buffalo Power Solutions services the natural gas engines and on-site power that keep gas compression running, from routine maintenance to major repair. Crews work from our Midland/Odessa branch across the Texas Permian Basin, our Texas branches also cover Louisiana, and the New Mexico side of the Permian is covered regionally.

Keeping Compression Online

A compressor that is down is gas that is not moving. The engines that drive compression run long hours at steady load in heat, dust and remote locations, and the generators that power station controls and electric-drive units carry the same stakes.

Our Midland/Odessa branch came to Buffalo Power Solutions through Rig Safe Solutions, which supports energy operations across Texas with generator sales, service, rental and 24/7 emergency response. Compression work draws on that field experience and on our engine overhaul capability.

Compression Site Services

Engine Maintenance

Scheduled service on the gas engines driving compressors, planned around run hours and oil analysis.

Ignition and Air-Fuel Control

Diagnosing misfire, detonation and emissions-related shutdowns on gas engines.

Site Power Generation

Service on the generators that power station controls, instrumentation and electric-drive compression.

Compressor Package Service

Service on the compressor package as a whole, with scope confirmed for each unit before dispatch.

Calls We Get Most

Engines shutting down on high temperature or low oil pressure
Misfire, detonation or rough running under load
Oil consumption or blow-by climbing between services
A site generator failure that takes station controls offline
Units coming due for scheduled service on run hours
Engines that need an overhaul planned around production
A mechanic in flame-resistant coveralls and gloves replaces spark plugs on a large natural gas engine while a co-worker holds a torque wrench, in dusty West Texas daylight

Gas Compression Service: Common Questions

Which areas do you cover for gas compression work?

Our Midland/Odessa branch covers the Texas side of the Permian Basin, including 24/7 emergency response. Our Texas branches also serve compression sites in Louisiana. Sites on the New Mexico side of the Permian are covered at our regional tier, and we agree response arrangements for each of those sites before work starts.

Do you service the compressor or only the engine?

Our core work is the natural gas engine that drives the compressor and the generators that power the site. We also service compressor packages as a whole. Because compressor configurations vary widely, tell us the package and the problem when you call and we will confirm the scope before a technician is dispatched.

How often do gas compression engines need service?

Intervals come from the engine manufacturer and the duty: run hours, load, fuel gas quality and ambient conditions. Compression engines often run around the clock, so hour-based service comes due quickly. Regular oil analysis lets us adjust intervals to the actual condition of each engine instead of a fixed calendar.

Can you overhaul a compression engine in the field?

Many top-end and in-frame overhauls can be done on location, which avoids pulling the engine off the skid and trucking it to a shop. When the damage calls for machining or a full rebuild, the engine comes to our shop. We plan either option around your production schedule to keep compression downtime as short as possible.

What should I have ready when I call?

The site location and access directions, the engine make and model, run hours, the shutdown or alarm you are seeing and whether the unit is down now. Recent oil analysis results and service records help us bring the right parts and decide whether the job is a repair or the start of an overhaul.
