Generator Service in San Antonio

Generator service across San Antonio and Bexar County, run out of our New Braunfels branch, about 45 minutes up I-35.

Dispatched from our New Braunfels branch, about 45 min away. No branch of ours in San Antonio itself.

Backup power in San Antonio

San Antonio is the closest of our no-branch markets, and the qualifier matters: the Census calls this metro San Antonio-New Braunfels, so the branch that covers it sits inside the metro area. We do not have a shop inside the city of San Antonio. We are about 45 minutes away in New Braunfels, which for scheduled work is no different from crossing town in Houston.

The critical load here is unusually concentrated. The South Texas Medical Center is a 900-acre district holding around nine hospital systems, more than 4,200 beds and some 30,000 employees, which is one of the densest concentrations of life-safety electrical load in the state. Joint Base San Antonio ties together Fort Sam Houston, Lackland and Randolph; the Texas Comptroller’s 2025 analysis credits it with 74,713 direct employees and 223,349 jobs supported in all, first among the state’s installations. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas builds trucks on the south side with thousands of supplier jobs around it, and is expanding. Microsoft has been building data centers in Bexar and Medina counties.

Add San Antonio Water System serving roughly two million people, a university system with more than 38,000 students after the 2025 UTSA and UT Health merger, and a hospitality industry that runs on the River Walk, and you have a city where a failed transfer switch is somebody’s very bad day.

What runs on standby power here

The South Texas Medical Center

Around nine hospital systems and more than 4,200 beds in one 900-acre district, all of it under NFPA 110 essential electrical system rules.

Military installations and their suppliers

Joint Base San Antonio spans Fort Sam Houston, Lackland and Randolph, with a contractor base that inherits the same uptime expectations.

Automotive manufacturing

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas and the supplier park around it, where a line stoppage is counted in vehicles, not minutes.

Data centers

Microsoft campuses in Bexar and Medina counties, plus the colocation and enterprise rooms that follow them.

Water and wastewater

San Antonio Water System serves around two million people across Bexar and neighboring counties.

Hospitality and venues

River Walk hotels, convention space and attractions, where a generator failure during an event is a public one.

Uri is still the benchmark here

When Winter Storm Uri hit in February 2021, roughly 400,000 CPS Energy homes and businesses lost power, in a city that stayed at or below freezing for more than a hundred consecutive hours. CPS Energy is the largest municipally owned gas and electric utility in the country and owns 40 percent of the South Texas Project nuclear plant, and none of that prevented the outage, because the failure was statewide generation, not local distribution. Since then the grid has kept setting demand records, with ERCOT passing 91 GW in an hour during July 2026. San Antonio also takes flash flooding: June 2025 brought the highest hourly rainfall rate recorded here since 1934 and killed 13 people. Standby plant in this city gets used.

How we cover San Antonio

Work in San Antonio is dispatched from New Braunfels, about 45 min away, and quoted with that drive in it. Scheduled work, installations, load bank testing and preventive maintenance are planned around it, so a visit is a fixed date rather than a guess. What we will not do is promise you a same-day emergency truck the way we can in the metros where we keep a branch: distance is distance, and you should hear that before you sign, not during an outage.

Maintenance customers get priority dispatch, which is the practical reason most facilities this far from a branch put their units on a contract. Our technicians are factory trained across major makes, and the same NFPA 110 documentation, load bank reports and fuel testing come with the work here as anywhere else in Texas.

San Antonio questions

Do you actually have a San Antonio location?

No, and we would rather say so plainly. Our branch is in New Braunfels, about 45 minutes up I-35, which is inside the San Antonio-New Braunfels metro area but is not a San Antonio address. In practice that is a normal service radius: New Braunfels also covers Austin and the I-35 corridor, and the drive is shorter than crossing Houston at five o’clock.

What does the San Antonio fire code require of a standby generator?

San Antonio adopted the 2024 International Fire Code with local amendments, effective 1 May 2025, so anything specified against the older edition should be rechecked. Where the code requires an emergency or standby system, it expects listed equipment installed and tested to NFPA 70, 110 and 111, with power restored inside 10 seconds for emergency loads and 60 seconds for standby loads, and a minimum runtime at rated load. The practical consequence is that your acceptance test and your annual testing records have to exist and be right, which is the part facilities usually discover during an inspection.

Is there a noise limit that affects where a generator can go?

Yes. San Antonio’s ordinance treats sound above roughly 63 dB at a residential property line as a nuisance, with higher thresholds for business and industrial receivers, and requires engine exhaust through a muffler. For a hospital or hotel sitting next to residential, that usually decides the enclosure grade and the orientation of the exhaust, and it is far cheaper to settle at specification than after the neighbors call.
